The illegal squatting of homes has become a headache for a large number of Spanish families. So much so that the main insurers are including in their offers products and coverages that cover this type of crime . The latest to join this trend has been Línea Directa, which has launched a comprehensive and specific policy for this situation, adding several benefits to help homeowners in the event of squatting.

The squatting, in numbers
Spain closed the year 2022 with 16,726 squats , which translates into about 46 a day, according to the latest data provided by the Ministry of the Interior. This figure is 3.17% lower than in 2021, when it set a record for the last six years with 17,274 squats.
The autonomous communities in which this type of crime is growing the most are the Valencian Community, Navarra and La Rioja, with increases of 13.8%, 10.1% and 9.8%, respectively.
On the contrary, Cantabria, Balearic Islands and Aragon are the regions of Spain in which squatting has decreased the most in 2022, with a reduction of 24.8%, 20.4% and 18.7%, respectively.
