Substitute judge Ricardo Alberto Pereira, of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro, authorized this Wednesday (15/4) that Casa & Vídeo stores reopen their doors in the capital to sell products considered essential by the state of Rio de Janeiro, such as food and medical and orthopedic items.

The injunction was denied by the B2B Lead 14th Public Finance Court of Rio, but the company appealed. Casa & Vídeo said its stores could remain open as they sell food and medical products.
In his decision, judge Ricardo Pereira highlighted that, at this time of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is necessary to protect public health as much as possible, but without forgetting the survival of companies, maintaining jobs and generating income.
There is no federal rule on the subject, companies can continue selling, in physical stores, products authorized by the state of Rio de Janeiro, he highlighted. But only them. Therefore, Casa & Vídeo will only be able to sell food and medical products during the state of calamity declared due to the coronavirus. Other items normally offered will not be accessible to consumers and employees.
In addition, the chain's stores must follow public orders to prevent the virus, such as making hygiene products available to customers and employees and maintaining distance between people.
If Casa & Vídeo fails to comply with these rules, the injunction will be suspended, and all of its stores will be closed. If, even so, units continue to operate, the group will have to pay a daily fine of 1% on the gross monthly revenue of each store that violates the court order.
